Start by placing an appropriate sized plate on a level surface. Make sure the location is not drafty as it could accelerate the flame and cause uneven burning and unnecessary dripping. Always be in the room with your lit candle.
Over time, the yellow/gold color of a freshly made candle will develop a faint white coating, known as bloom. This is a natural occurrence of beeswax signifying it is pure and clean.
Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4 to 1/2 inch. If the wick is too long, the candle will burn hot and therefore more quickly. If the wick is too short, it may put itself out in the wax pool.
